DOWL wins big at ACEC Oregon Engineering Excellence Awards
At the recent 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards, presented annually by the Oregon chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), DOWL projects took home two awards, including a major recognition.
The 8th Street Bridge Replacement in Pendleton, Oregon, received an honor award, and the Astoria Waterfront Bridge Replacements project in Astoria, Oregon, received Best in Category – Transportation.
The 8th Street Bridge project replaced a 110-year-old historic bridge with a new steel truss that improves the flow of traffic and meets current design standards while also honoring the historic nature of the original bridge and its surroundings.
The Astoria Waterfront Bridge Replacements project, winner of Best in Category, was an immensely complex project that replaced six bridges along the Columbia River in Astoria. Over the course of two accelerated construction seasons, the DOWL team worked around tourist traffic, existing infrastructure, marine wildlife, and a lack of as-built plans to successfully replace these structures and keep Astoria’s vibrant waterfront commercial district functioning normally for years to come.
The Engineering Excellence Awards recognize the best engineering projects in our region, so it is an immense honor to be selected among a distinguished roster of projects big and small across all sections of the architecture and engineering fields.
DOWL is humbled to receive these awards, and we’d like to thank everyone involved with making these projects successful.
