Nick Straka, PE joins DOWL’s Anchorage office
DOWL is excited to announce that Nick Straka, PE has joined the firm as a project manager in our Anchorage, Alaska office. With over two decades of experience, Nick brings a diverse skill set and a professional engineering license to his new role.
Nick’s engineering career began in 2001 as an intern, and since then, he has worked on a wide range of projects in Alaska and Hawaii. His expertise spans various disciplines, including aviation, site design, highway design, hydrology and hydraulics, surveying, structural, marine engineering, and construction administration. He gained valuable experience during his time in Maui, where he worked for the Hawaii Department of Transportation and a commercial contractor, contributing to major renovations at Kahului Airport (OGG) and various resorts. Since his return to Alaska in 2016, Nick has primarily focused on aviation projects and has successfully managed nearly two dozen airport projects.
Nick’s extensive background and proficiency in collaborating with multiple disciplines make him an effective project manager of multi-discipline aviation projects. His engineering background and multifaceted experience make him a valuable addition to our aviation group.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife Anna, 13-year-old twins Magen and Caleb, and his dog Nova. Nick and his family enjoy outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, camping, RVing, and skiing. Nick is also passionate about cycling. He participates in various bike races around town, including fat bike, road bike, cross country, cyclocross, and gravel riding. During the summer, he coaches a kids mountain bike group in Mirror Lake with the Chugach Mountain Bike Riders.
