Rosebud Sioux Rural Water System – Sicangu Mni Winconi
The Rosebud Sioux Rural Water System, or Sicangu Mni Wiconi, provides high quality water throughout the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. The system consists of multiple sources of supply, both surface and groundwater, disinfection facilities, numerous pump stations, control valve stations, water storage tanks, and more than 450 miles of pipelines greater than three inches in diameter.
DOWL initially completed a Needs Assessment for the Tribe and then provided planning, design, and construction administration services over the 25-year life of the project. The work included design and rights-of-way survey and assistance in permitting, as well as helping the Tribe develop tribal construction capabilities. DOWL approached this $92 million dollar project with the commitment to build human resources as well as infrastructure. DOWL also provided training in GIS, construction administration, and inspection in order to help build the local economy.
