Blacktail Deer Creek Floodplain Study
DOWL has completed the hydraulic modeling and mapping for a new enhanced level (with floodway) floodplain study for an 11-mile reach of Blacktail Deer Creek in Beaverhead County. This flood study will extend through two communities including Beaverhead County and City of Dillon, where Blacktail Deer Creek flows through a fully developed area of the city. The evaluation included developing a two-dimensional model to help calibrate the one-dimensional model throughout the town of Dillon. The one-dimensional model included 44 structures including bridges, culverts, flumes, and irrigation structures. A regulatory two-dimensional model was also developed for mapping a shallow flooding boundary occurring through the gridded streets in west Dillon.
