Eyak Weir Preliminary Analysis and Replacement Design
Eyak Weir, constructed in 1972, maintains the water level in Eyak Lake that supports important fish habitat as well as a drinking water source for the City of Cordova. The degrading weir is classed as a fish barrier and a hazard to local recreational users. DOWL was engaged by CRWP to characterize the geomorphic, hydrologic, and hydraulic attributes of the weir and the site, propose potential alternatives to replace the weir, and design a replacement structure. DOWL has also supported CRWP and project partners in public outreach to hear the needs of the community and reflect those in the design.
DOWL helped CRWP secure grant funding and then designed the weir improvements.
