Freeport McMoran Mine Maintenance Building
DOWL was responsible for civil design and construction administration services of the Freeport McMoran Mine “Pit Viper” Maintenance Building. This locally funded project included design and survey services for an approximately 15,000 square foot maintenance facility for the Sierrita Mine’s “Pit Viper” Drill, which is a track mounted drill rig used for drilling and blasting within the mine pit. The drill rig weighs 185,000 pounds and required design attention to slab settlement and underground utilities with vertical and horizontal expansion fittings. The project consists of grading approximately three acres, sanitary sewer design and water design. Design considerations due to the size and weight of the potential machinery within and around the facility were accounted for.
