Hopkins Canal
In association with the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and other partners, the Rogue River Valley Irrigation District and the DOWL team converted the upper 3.4 miles of Hopkins Canal from an open-air canal to a 48-inch pressurized pipeline. The lower 1.2-mile section of earthen canal was converted into a pipe system to prevent enough infiltration loss to meet USBR’s habitat uplift goals. Piping the northern 2.2 miles of the section from the Bradshaw drop to Spring Creek included about 100 feet of elevation drop which produced enough head necessary to provide this section with the pressures required to support conversion of irrigation delivery from flood to sprinkler systems.
