I-405: Fremont Bridge Approach Ramps

DOWL led the preservation design of nine bridge approach ramps to the Fremont Bridge. The Fremont Bridge interchanges are among the busiest in Oregon. Nine months after the start of the design, DOWL was competitively awarded an additional bridge preservation project located on the I-405 northbound ramp to US26 westbound. DOWL was able to quickly contract with Oregon Department of Transportation for the additional work and merged the two projects together at Advance Plans. DOWL also designed the traffic control staging to minimize impacts to the traveling public and businesses by using integrated constructability study with staged traffic control. In total, the project replaced 22 joints and 20 joint seals, and placed over 410,000 square feet of bridge deck overlay.
