Lake Hood Master Plan
The Lake Hood Seaplane Base is the largest and busiest seaplane base in the United States with over 1,100 based aircraft and dozens of busy commercial leases. DOWL completed a 20-year airport master plan, airport layout plan, and aeronautical survey. The master plan addressed user demand for more lease lots and floatplane slips and reconfigured one of the busiest areas of the airport to reduce conflicts between aircraft, automobiles, and pedestrians. The master plan had a very extensive user and public outreach program involving multiple electronic surveys, tenant meetings, an active advisory committee, and public meetings. During the planning process DOWL also advised the client and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about deficiencies in the seaplane base advisory circular. This subsequentially lead to the FAA chosing to update the document.
