Port of Anchorage Cement Load Out Facility
Alaska Basic Industries (ABI) contracted DOWL to provide professional engineering services for a cement storage structure at the Port of Anchorage. Services included drilling and sampling two test borings to depths of 150 feet and performing two Cone Penetrometer tests to depths of 150 feet at the proposed cement dome sites at the ABI loading facility. A detailed report along with geotechnical recommendations were provided.
Due to large estimated settlements the site was preloaded. Settlements observed during pre-loading were incorporated into a detailed settlement analysis model (Sigma/W) and long-term settlements were estimated along with behavior related to filling and emptying the dome during normal use.
