Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center GID Effluent System
DOWL provided the planning, design, and construction management for the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRI Center) General Improvement District (GID) effluent reuse system. As an extension to the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility (TMWRF) 24-inch Pipeline Project, the TRI Center GID system included a 2,000 acre-feet HDPE-lined reservoir that is the discharge point for the TMWRF pipeline, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent pipeline, and an induction well located near the WWTP. The reservoir required 1,000,000 cubic yards of earthwork to accommodate the required storage and reconstruction of an earthen dam 55 feet in height. Approximately 2.2 miles of piping was constructed to distribute the three sources of effluent directly to the reservoir and to the 1,000,000-gallon tank.
Another component of the system included two booster pump stations (BPS). The lower BPS draws effluent from a 30-inch pipe that penetrates below the dam and sends the effluent to the 1,000,000-gallon storage tank near the upper east side of the dam. The second BPS pulls effluent from the 1,000,000-gallon tank and sends the effluent to an existing 3,000,000-gallon tank through 2.7 miles of 30-inch ductile iron piping. The effluent end users plan to use the effluent from the 3,000,000-gallon tank and polish it using reverse osmosis for use as process water.
