Washington Way Bridge
The Washington Way Bridge is located in the popular and historic Lake Sacajawea Park, which made this bridge replacement particularly challenging. Due to the park’s listing on the National Registry of Historic Places, project aesthetics were an important consideration. The popular park also features a trail system, part of which passes directly under the bridge.
DOWL led a full-service team through on-site investigations, alternatives analysis, design, permitting, and construction engineering for a three-span, 160-foot-long, prestressed concrete deck slab structure. The slightly arched slabs were the result of an extensive effort to understand the intent of the park’s original architects and to reflect that character in the new design.
DOWL provided design services for the new bridge, roadway approaches, and a waterline across the bridge.
